There are clinical stages for Soyang-type persons based on their current internal and external symptoms. The external symptoms were explained last month, and this month, the internal symptoms will be introduced, and herbal medicines for the treatment of each stage’s symptoms.
Most internal symptoms are related to heat besides Yin depletion disease, coldness and abdominal pain pattern, and its advanced stage pattern.
The most important thing in Constitutional medicine is classifying a patient’s constitution to apply. There are many ways to determine the constitution, and all complaints and symptoms found during the consultation could be a good clue to check your diagnosis because symptoms listed for each clinical stage of the certain constitution cannot be seen in other constitutions.
Internal Symptoms Mostly Accompany With Heat-Related Symptoms
The Herbal Formulas Are Prepared For Each Clinical Stage of Soyang-Type
The following symptoms are classified as internal symptom patterns of Soyang-type persons. According to constitutional medicine, the symptoms and the clinical stages should only be seen among Soyang-type persons.
Yin depletion disease fever and headache pattern
Characterized by symptoms such as body heat, including fever, diarrhea, headache, thirst, chest stuffiness, decreased urine output, and dark urine. Jeoryeongchajeonja-tang should be used.
Yin depletion disease fever and headache advanced stage pattern
Characterized by symptoms such as body heat, including fever, headache, diarrhea, several times a little or sometimes not having a bowel movement, severe irritability, and restlessness, the case that heat syndrome is more severe than that of Yin depletion disease fever and headache pattern. Hyeongbangsabaek-san should be prescribed.
Yin depletion disease coldness and abdominal pain pattern
A pattern accompanied by the body being cold, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Hwalseokgosam-tang is used.
Yin depletion disease coldness and abdominal pain advanced stage pattern
The pattern is characterized by more severe cold syndrome compared to Yin depletion disease coldness, and abdominal pain pattern, having diarrhea several times a little or sometimes not having a bowel movement accompanied by stuffiness and bloating of the pit of the stomach. Hyeongbangjihwang-tang should be considered.
Chest heat congested disease initial stage pattern
A pattern characterized by a small amount and darkening in color of urine, constipation within one day, and accompanied by mild chilling in Chest heat congested disease. Hyeongbangsabaek-san cures the symptoms.
Chest heat congested disease advanced stage pattern
The pattern is characterized by a small amount of urine and darkening of color, constipation exceeding one day, and accompanied by severe irritability and restlessness, and severe heat syndrome such as ‘redness, swelling, fever and pain’ in the face, eyes, ears, nose, mouth, tongue, throat and skin in the chest heat congested disease. It is common for the disease to progress rapidly. Jihwangbaekho-tang and Yangdokbaekho-tang should be considered.
Stomach clear yang-ascending failure pattern [Upper wasting-thirst pattern]
A frequent but small amount of urine and heat syndrome of the head and faces, such as red tongue and lips, red and cracked tongue, and red face, etc., accompanies the pattern. It is common for the disease to progress gradually. Yanggyeoksanhwa-tang should be considered.
Large intestine clear yang-ascending failure pattern [Middle wasting-thirst pattern]
The pattern is accompanied by changes in the appearance of losing weight despite eating a lot due to strong appetite and symptoms such as carbuncle and cellulitis, eye disease, drum-like abdominal distension, etc., that appear due to prolonged illness in Chest heat congested disease. Indongdeungjigolpi-tang should be considered.
Small yang [Soyang] type Yin deficiency diurnal fever disease
Large intestine clear yang depletion pattern [Lower wasting-thirst pattern]
The pattern is characterized by symptoms of a large amount of turbid urine and withered thighs and knees and soreness and pain in joints with the symptoms of Yin deficiency diurnal fever disease. Sukjihwanggosam-tang should be considered.
Yin deficiency diurnal fever pattern
The pattern symptoms of abnormal heat sensation that accompany the main symptoms occur in the afternoon or at night and are followed by chilling, indigestion feeling full and bloated in the epigastric region after eating, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, etc., with the symptoms of Yin deficiency diurnal fever disease. Dokhwaljihwang-tang should be considered.
Yin deficiency diurnal fever advanced stage pattern
The pattern is accompanied by symptoms of upper heat and abnormal rising of Gi(Qi) due to becoming severe Yin deficiency, diurnal fever pattern, and in severe cases, even hematemesis. Sibimijihwang-tang should be considered.
